Ranking is friction, never taste.
Pulse does not decide whether a room is pretty. It ranks which operational failure is most likely to steal the gathering, then names one test you can reverse. If nothing is failing, it says so.
What you enter
Occasion type and setting are required. Guest band, duration, seating, and the six human conditions may be unknown. Unknown is not scored as zero. Optional observations (arrival pattern, light state, fallback) sharpen the ranking when you have walked the path.

Arrival (Journey)
Can a guest find themselves, enter without apology, and land?
Flow (Venue)
Can the evening move from one beat to the next without a jam?
Sight (Atmosphere)
Can people see who they came with, the host, and the thing that matters?
Light (Atmosphere)
Does the light still serve people after the photographs are done?
Service (Production)
Can food, drink, and program actually happen in this room?
Contingency (Production)
If weather, overflow, or a curfew arrives, does the evening have somewhere to go?
How ranking works
- Each friction class receives points from failed human ratings, named observation patterns, occasion type, setting, guest band, and optional first-friction keywords.
- The highest score is primary. A second class is named only if it meets a threshold of 15.
- If the highest score is below 18, status is holding — do not buy a solution looking for a problem.
- Many unknowns produce a provisional status. Confidence falls with each unknown field. Unknowns are listed on the reading.
- A life-safety flag fails closed: no décor diagnosis, no reversible test, a professional boundary.
What-if
After a reading, change one constraint (guest band, setting, fallback, weather). The same rules re-run locally. Pulse will tell you whether the primary shifted.
Privacy
Drafts, history, and anonymous funnel counts live in this browser. Nothing is uploaded. A handoff to Atmosphere OS rides a URL fragment you inspect first. JSON export is yours to keep.
What this is not
Not a life-safety inspection. Not a venue catalog (that is Venue Intelligence). Not a working production plan (that is Atmosphere OS). Not a substitute for a qualified professional when code, occupancy, or fire is in play.
